As of 29 May 2020, there had been 64 confirmed deaths, making it the second-most deadly outbreak in Ontario. On May 27, the Province of Ontario announced that it would take over management of the facility for two weeks.
The story also cited a staff member who shared that the facility had limited the availability of PPE, forcing staff to use one mask for their entire shift. As of Saturday at 1 p.m., a total of 196 deaths of COVID-19 have been reported in Peel region, of which 119 were long-term care home residents. On Friday, when Camilla Care Community reported 44 deaths, that number accounted for 37 per cent of all deaths related to COVID-19 in the region's long-term care homes and 22 per cent of all COVID-19 fatalities in total across the region. In November 2021 it was announced that Partners Community Health (a not-for-profit organization) and Trillium Health Partners entered into an agreement with Sienna Senior Living to purchase and operate Camilla Care Community. As of April 1, 2022, Trillium Health Partners purchased the building and land that the home is situated on, while Partners Community Health acquired the 236 long-term care bed licenses and operations of the home.

Camilla Care Community is a 236-resident long-term care home in Mississauga, Ontario, owned by Partners Community Health. The facility was taken over, temporarily, by the Province of Ontario in May 2020, as a result of extensive deaths from COVID-19. Today, Partners Community Health and Trillium Health Partners acquired Camilla Care Community long-term care home in Mississauga from Sienna Senior Living. Now, when people drive by Camilla Care Community, they will see neat rows of crosses, 50 in total, each bearing the name of a deceased resident. In search of a visual representation to mourn the loss of their loved one, Guy and his granddaughter, Rylee Guy-Ryosa, joined a Facebook group of family members who had the idea to create a kind of memorial on the lawn outside the long-term care home. To this day, he says the only call he received from Camilla Care Community staff came the day following his mom's death, when they asked him to make arrangements to pick up her belongings.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said in an email on Saturday that she knows the home is working closely with Peel Public Health and Trillium Health Partners on infection prevention and control and ongoing testing of residents and staff. "Camilla Care has remained a high priority home throughout our response; we understand how difficult it must be for residents and their families and continue to do everything we can to support their efforts to combat spread." Gokchenian said the home is committed to keeping family members of residents informed of developments.
Peel Public Health reports 196 COVID-19 deaths total
"We are sincerely thankful to the courageous individuals who came forward with their concerns. We know we need to do better and we are committed to taking immediate action to improve delivery of care for our residents," she said. Natalie Gokchenian,spokesperson for Sienna Senior Living, said in an email on Tuesday that the company is "profoundly troubled" by the allegations. So far, 16 residents are affected by the allegations, says the letter dated June 19. The majority of COVID-19 deaths in Peel region have occurred in Mississauga.

A son of one of the deceased residents is now speaking out against what he is calling a lack of communication from staff. She said Boniferro "is closely reviewing our policies, practices and culture to ensure that our residences are safe, respectful and inclusive for all of our residents and their families." When his mom's health took a turn for the worse, Guy said, she was shuffled several times between the emergency room of a local hospital and various floors of the long-term care home.

In the story, the family of one woman who died in April told the Post reporter that the facility had downplayed the severity of the outbreak. Lawrence Loh, the interim medical officer of health at Peel Region, says the home has been on their "radar" since it first experienced the outbreak in early April. While the crosses offer some reprieve, Guy-Ryosa says it's painful knowing she couldn't speak to her great-grandmother in the days before her death. His family has a plot waiting for his mom beside her husband's grave in Corner Brook, N.L., where the family is from originally. But because of the pandemic, no one knows when they will be able to make the trip to hold a service and bury her. "We extend our deepest condolences to the families for their loss. Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones at this time." His mother is one of 50 residents who have died of the virus at Camilla Care Communityin a matter of weeks.
This transaction is a three-way agreement between Sienna Senior Living , Partners Community Health and Trillium Health Partners . The agreement includes the sale of Camilla in its entirety, including the property and the 236 long-term care bed licenses. Pursuant to this agreement, PCH acquired the bed licenses and operations of the LTC home and THP acquired the building and land where Camilla is currently situated.
A 82-year-old resident was charged with manslaughter in 2017, after the death of a 79-year-old resident. The facility began accepting patients in March 1970, as Chelsey Park Nursing Home Ltd. Operated by the British Columbia-based National Hospital Management Services, it advertised as a "completely modern nursing home designed for the care of invalids, elderly, and convalescent patients." THP intends to use the property that Camilla is currently situated on as a part of the future footprint of the new Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital. The planning for this new hospital is currently underway with the City of Mississauga and Government of Ontario. "Certainly no one has wanted to see the results that have been there, but I can tell you that there has been a lot of work that has gone into trying to get the outbreak in that home under control," he said.
A GTA hospital system that's taken control of one of Ontario's long-term care homes hardest hit by the novel coronavirus pandemic says it is looking into further allegations of abuse, neglect and mistreatment at the hands of the home's staff. Crombie urged people in Peel region to continue following public health directives to stay home to slow community spread of the virus. PCH is committed to continued dialogue with Camilla staff, residents, and families during this transition period, and as they plan together for an exciting future, in which PCH will be operating a new long-term care home at 2180 Speakman Drive in Mississauga.
